WHAT IS A LIFETIME ACTIVITY?
Lifetime activities are activities that can be done both individually and with friends, but do not require other participants like football, basketball or field hockey do. These activities can be done by young and old alike and often require little equipment, so they’re easy to incorporate into your day. There are a variety of lifetime activities that include, but are not limited to, swimming, walking, jogging, climbing, dance, bicycling, weight training, and skiing.

Active living is a way of life that integrates physical activity into daily routines. Many lifetime activities are incorporated in an active living environment as people take the stairs, walk and bike to work, school or the store.

Participation Rates for Land-Based Activities
- The #1 favorite form of Land-Based Activity with over 66% participation was walking
- 43% of people chose to visit Natural Wilderness areas as their favorite form of Land-Based Activity
- 41% of all participants chose Picnicking as their favorite form of outside activity
- 2.7 million individuals chose bicycling as their preferred form of Land-Based Activities
- Hiking ranked sixth at 30% participation in all Land-Based Activity

- The #1 favorite choice of Water-Based Activities was swimming with over 5.6 million Pennsylvanians participating
- Fishing, Boating and Canoeing composed over 58% of participation in all water-Based Activities
Snow and Ice-Based Activities
- Sledding is the most popular snow and ice-based activity with 2.8 million Pennsylvanians participating.
- Downhill skiing was the 2nd most popular form of ice-based Activity with over 1.3 million Pennsylvania participants
- Snowmobiling ranked 4th as Pennsylvanians favorite Snow And Ice-Based Activities
